DEEP CURRENT

Crocheters are Talking About…

🔶 …What will be hot in 2026. The Craft Industry Alliance hosted a presentation on trends for the new year. Some things will continue: Dill Pickles and Junk Journaling but they’re predicting ducks will be big in the new year, as well as garlands and mobiles.

My favorite has to be the Imperfect Neutrals trend. Imperfection is having a moment, and as someone whose crochet is far from perfect, I’m happy to see it embraced.

🔶 …This amazing 3D snowflake ornament is the most clicked pattern on Ravelry at the moment!

🔶 …The Game of Wool and its high expectations of its crafters. Not readily available in the USA, The Game of Wool is a UK competitive crafting show hosted by former Olympic diver and now knitting/crochet influencer Tom Daley. Here’s a summary of the first two episodes plus opinion piece calling it an “insult to knitters”! 😲

WIP

Last Minute Christmas Décor

This week I added a mini Christmas Tree to my holiday décor and it needs a tree skirt! I did as every good crocheter would do and dropped my current WIP in favor of a new one! (For once, I wrote the hook # on the pattern for when I go back to it!)

So many good tree skirt patterns, but not one really for mini trees. I was concerned about the hole in regular tree skirts being too big. I watched a YouTube video on a mini tree skirt (just about the only one!) for inspiration and started it out like a standard crochet circle but without the join. A couple of rows later and finagled the right number of stitches to start the Six Day Star Tree Skirt pattern I chose.

Here’s my progress so far -

It’s a little uneven (the white yarn in the same brand is much thinner than the colored yarns - what’s up with that?) and I was watching Man vs Baby on Netflix in the half-dark laughing hysterically! Maybe not everyone’s of cup tea, but a must-watch for Rowan Atkinson fans!

Mini tree is a shorter project so a few more rows to go and I think I’ll do the bobbles as a trim. Stay tuned for finished project pics!
